Different Styles of Reference the Citation

There are several different styles of referencing the citation used in academic writing: APA, MLA, Chicago, Harvard, Vancouver, IEEE. The most common ones include:

  1. APA (American Psychological Association): Used in social sciences, education, and psychology. The reference list is in alphabetical order and includes author’s name, year of publication, title, and publisher information.
  • In-text citation: (Smith, 2019)
  • Reference list entry: Smith, J. (2019). Title of the article. Journal Name, 32(1), 12-25. doi: 10.1234/5678
  1. MLA (Modern Language Association): Used in humanities, such as literature, languages, and cultural studies. The reference list is in alphabetical order and includes author’s name, title, publisher information, and date of publication.
  • In-text citation: (Smith 12)
  • Works Cited entry: Smith, John. “Title of the Article.” Journal Name, vol. 32, no. 1, 2019, pp. 12-25.
  1. Chicago Manual of Style: Used in history, humanities, and social sciences. There are two styles: author-date and notes-bibliography. The reference list includes author’s name, title, and publication information.
