UGC NET: JRF amount recommended to 50 thousand per month

Currently, an amount of 31-35 thousand rupees is provided per month for JRF and SRF. The committee, headed by BJP MP Dr. Vinay P. Sahasrabuddhe, in its report has made several suggestions for enhancing research in higher education. It states that the National Research Foundation (NRF) should initiate fellowships on subjects of national importance.

The committee has recommended the addition of two-semester internships in BA, BSc and BCom to make higher education employable. Employment opportunities for these students in startups in companies will improve their employment opportunities.

The committee said that the government should formulate a plan to increase investment in new technologies like artificial intelligence, nanotechnology block-chain, quantum computing, mixed reality, and data analysis, etc. with a special focus on agriculture, healthcare, and education. These areas have the potential to generate employment on a large scale which needs to be exploited. The department should form a study group to prepare a plan to train human resources for jobs arising in all these emerging technologies.
